Samantha Millington Ringwood grew up near Bath and studied Fine at the University of Plymouth. Now a semi-retired art teacher residing in Emsworth, between Chichester Harbour and the South Downs, she draws inspiration from the landscape's light, colours, and textures throughout the seasons. Since 2013, Samantha has participated in the Emsworth Arts Trail. Her mixed media paintings feature a unique style combining gold leaf, ink, and acrylic paint. She begins by preparing surfaces with ink to define the horizon line, followed by the application of gold leaf. Layers of acrylic ink, paint, and gesso are then added to create depth and texture. Samantha aims for her art to evoke memories of landscapes and reflect how light changes throughout the day, particularly as it interacts with the gold leaf. Gold holds spiritual significance in many cultures, symbolizing purity, wisdom, and enlightenment. Inspired by her local surroundings and travels, Samantha presents a collection of atmospheric paintings and photographs evoke a strong sense of place. Drawing influence from artists like Turner and Rothko, she hopes her work inspires a feeling of enlightenment.
